Care instructions / Care guide for the 1990 Coat, our 100% wool coat

Once a year: dry cleaning

  • A wool coat is a garment that doesn't need frequent washing. If you wear it regularly during winter, a good routine is to have it dry-cleaned once a year at the end of the season by a professional, then store it hung in its garment bag until the next winter. Opt for an eco-friendly dry cleaner that uses dry-cleaning techniques without perchloroethylene, a solvent now declared toxic.
  • Wool is a fiber with natural antibacterial properties. To freshen up your coat, you can hang it outdoors to air it out for a few hours.
  • We advise against washing your coat yourself. Avoid immersing it in water, as this could deform it. Do not put it in the washing machine or tumble dryer.

How to store it

  • Once winter is over, you can store your coat inside its cover to protect it from dust.
  • You can store it folded flat in its cover or hang it in your closet.
  • You can place a cedar ball or lavender in your wardrobe to repel moths. Good to Know: Moths are discerning insects that always prioritize the most luxurious fibers in your wardrobe, including your coat!

Creases, pilling and small snags

  • Has an unwanted crease formed? You can use a steamer, your steam generator iron or your iron, making sure to stay below 110°C (this corresponds to 1 star on your appliance).
  • Has pilling appeared in areas prone to friction? The material has a very high density and shorter fibers may come out during the first few wears. Don't worry, this effect will lessen over time. We recommend using a lint roller or a depiller comb, the same one you use for your sweaters. Avoid electric shavers, which can be very abrasive and damage your coat.
  • If you snag your coat, do not pull on the thread or cut it. Instead, try stretching the area widthwise and lengthwise; this should help put the threads back in place. If you make a hole, run to your nearest tailor who will repair the item before the hole gets bigger.

Dust and Stains

  • Wool coats are particularly susceptible to dust and dog hair. To remove them, use a lint roller.
  • If you've made a stain, you can use Marseille soap on the affected area, avoiding scrubbing.
  • If you are unsure, it's best to take your coat to a dry cleaner who will be able to help you.
  • There is very little risk of color bleeding on lighter colors, as the coat is not dyed but made from recycled wool.
