Description

100% wool, a centerpiece of the Patine autumn-winter wardrobe, the 1990 Coat combines timeless style and responsible innovation. It's our interpretation of a beautiful coat: a generous volume to wear over anything, with or without its removable belt, a raised and buttoned collar for very cold days.

Style, even over simple jeans
Its structured shoulder line and rounded arm create a confident silhouette. It is designed to accompany you everywhere and elevates every outfit, even simple sweatpants. It is just long enough for a casual look, while maintaining true freedom of movement, as the Patine girl moves more often on foot with a quick pace than in a 4x4. It can be worn open or closed, starting this winter and for many years to come.

The most advanced material we've found for a coat:
For this pure wool coat that keeps you warm, we've chosen a very high-end material, a "future-proof" 100% wool, a true technological feat. A double-faced 100% wool that is both flexible and dense, the secret to the "perfect drape." This is the result of our collaboration with the Italian house Manteco®, renowned for its premium quality and commitment to the circular economy since 1943. A thick, double-faced 100% wool, a regenerated wool that is strictly as high-quality as virgin wool, with a reduced carbon footprint. Very Patine indeed.

Medium grey: a tribute to NY (again!) we thought a lot about Carolyn Bessette, and about you too: not easily soiled when it snows or rains, with deep shades that brighten... no dull greys that make you look washed out, winter will be long enough.

Sustainability and materials

INNOVATIVE MATERIAL

100% regenerated double-faced Italian wool.
Woven in Italy by Manteco®, a global leader in circular textiles since 1943, this coat is made from MWool®
• Dense and durable double-weave separable twill fabric.
• OVR PRG artisanal finish, inherited from Melton expertise, for a smooth, premium feel.
• "No-dye" color: achieved without any dyeing thanks to the patented Recype® process, which subtly blends recycled fibers.

🌍 Measured positive impact: compared to classic virgin wool, MWool® reduces carbon emissions by 99.2%, water consumption by 99.9%, and energy consumption by 93.3%.

TRACEABILITY

1. Fiber recycling (Italy – Montemurlo, Prato)
• Recycling of wool from production surpluses and old wool garments (pre-consumer and post-consumer)
• Mechanical recycling (shredding, fraying) to transform sorted textiles into new fibers.
• Production of the patented MWool® 100% recycled wool yarn

2. Spinning, weaving and finishing (Italy – Montemurlo, Prato):
• Performed by Manteco®, a family business pioneering circularity since 1943.
• Double-faced twill fabric, separable structure.
• OVR PRG artisanal finish (pre-napping + intensive milling) to achieve an effect similar to a Melton finish, dense, smooth, and soft.

3. Zero dyeing
• Recype® process: color creation without dye or chemicals, by blending shades of recycled fibers.

4. Manufacturing (Portugal):
• Produced in our partner workshop certified SMETA, Higg Index, GOTS, GRS, OCS 100, RWS.
• Recognized expertise, also a partner of major luxury brands, they also manufacture our trench coats.

5. Recyclability:
• Recyclable wool at the end of its life

Size advice

OUR ADVICE
This coat is intentionally oversized and fits perfectly. For a look like the one in the photos, we recommend choosing your usual size.
You can size down if you want a less loose effect.
In the photos, the model is wearing her usual size, S, and is 1.71m tall.

LENGTH
If you are 1.70m tall, the coat will come to about mid-calf, so there's no risk of tripping over it. The lengths for each size are indicated. This length has been refined with your help through fittings from 1m60 to 1m85.
If you have the first edition coat: we have shortened them by 2cm.

LAYERING FRIENDLY
The armholes and shoulders allow you to wear your coat with several layers of clothing underneath without feeling restricted, regardless of the size you choose.
The sleeves cover the start of the hands (approx. the first phalanx). It's warmer, more elegant, and you can tighten the cuffs to pull them up.

MEASUREMENTS
For this edition, there are 7 sizes available from XXS to XXL, and the coat accommodates all body types.
The table indicates the correspondence with FR sizes.
Please read the coat measurements carefully: they do not correspond to your body measurements but to those of the garment laid flat.
For example, the shoulder width is wider than your shoulder width, because the shoulder seam is shifted several centimeters lower than the shoulder point to achieve a dropped shoulder.

It's called the 1990. A 100% wool coat that combines the best of innovation with respect for tradition.
An absolute bestseller last winter, we produced 200 copies that were launched and sold out immediately.
This year, it's back in black, and in 2 new colors: medium grey and navy blue.

On paper (glossy paper), the fantasy was clear: to be that very elegant woman walking quickly (in the warmth) in her large coat. A coat one would have liked to place on the shoulders of Andrée Putman or Robin Wright in an idealized New York of the 90s.

1/3

Everyday icon

This coat is compatible with your entire Patine wardrobe, whether it's to elevate a very casual look or to complete a more sophisticated outfit.

For those mornings when you have to take the kids to school still in your jogging bottoms and trainers, this coat will save your look.

And when a few hours later you have to go conquer the world and get that loan from the bank, the votes of the general assembly, the cancellation of a new pipeline project or an extra dose of oat milk in your latte, it will rise to the occasion too.

Opposite, the coat worn over a jacket or a simple shirt.

The art of material

A double-faced fabric that's 100% wool, dense, warm, and holds its shape. It's a miracle of innovation, or rather the result of hard work by Manteco®, an almost century-old Italian company that invented a 100% regenerated double-faced wool that meets virgin wool quality standards. And it's undyed.
Of course, every new production is an adventure, and we spent 4 months in almost daily contact to have the rolls from which these new coats are cut manufactured. Control freaks, the Patine team? Yes, but they love us anyway, and the result is fabulous.

Patine x Manteco®
This coat is made from MWool® 100% recycled wool.
The impact is radical and measured: compared to classic virgin wool, MWool® reduces carbon emissions by 99.2%, water consumption by 99.9%, and energy consumption by 93.3%.

We share the desire to innovate with a virtuous, more ecological, and community-oriented short-circuit model. Conscious collaborations are the new cool!

3 colors:

Of course, it was reissued in black, given the size of the waitlist and because it's a great classic that we'll always love!

And 2 new colors this year, the most requested:
- Dark navy: it's a deep navy blue, the secret to blues that can be worn with blue jeans or black pants.

- Medium gray: a tribute to NY (again!) we thought a lot about Carolyn Bessette, and about you too: it doesn't show dirt easily when it snows or rains, with deep shades that brighten (no to grays that dull your complexion, winter is long enough already).

To choose is to renounce

Designed with you in mind

We're (very) slow fashion, but we're building our version of the ideal wardrobe with you! 1856 of you shared your dream coat with us. The 1990 coat is our answer: we know you're demanding, and so are we.

The most meticulous among you will notice the construction details, the slope of the shoulder, the curve of the sleeve, the double center back seam, the French seam finishes... The intuitive among you will feel the enveloping sensation it provides when you try it on, the way it changes your gait. The purists will appreciate its 100% wool composition, while the most committed will love the recycled wool innovation.

One of the questions on the questionnaire was "close your eyes and imagine the coat of your dreams." Here's a tasty snippet from your shopping list:

_ “LONG, oversized, black, like a giant but well-structured blanket, in recycled wool 😌💅🏻” Fabrizia D.

_”Loose, feminine, understated, and ABOVE ALL 100% natural materials. No more polyester, polyamide, etc.” Emma S.

_“Long. No frills. Straight. At least 80% wool, absolutely the absolute minimum.” Elise B

It’s not a parka, it’s a COAT, like a real, tailored one, in wool from laine that keeps you super warm without killing your style.” Léa L.

Coat FAQ

How does pre-ordering work?

Pre-orders open on Saturday, September 5th at 08:00 and will last for 3 weeks, until Sunday, September 27th at midnight. This should be enough time to read, compare, perhaps try on, and decide.
During this period, the coat will be offered at a "pre-order" price.
Shipments are planned for the following week, as the coats are already in production.

Can I try on the coat?

Yes, for the entire pre-order period, at the pop-up store located at 15, rue Debelleyme Paris 3e. All sizes are available for fitting.

What is the price of the pre-ordered coat?

The coat is available for pre-order at €595. Its official price is €650, the same as last year.
You can pay in interest-free installments with Alma at checkout, so you only pay a portion of the amount when pre-ordering.

I'm petite, I'm afraid it might be too long!

We believe length is the secret to stylish coats; it's all about proportions.

If you are 1.70m tall, the coat will reach about mid-calf, so there's no risk of tripping over it. The lengths for each size are indicated. This length has been refined thanks to your feedback from fittings for heights ranging from 1.60m to 1.85m.
If you own a coat from the first edition: we have shortened them by 2cm for this 2026 re-edition.

Can I wear it over a thick sweater?

Yes. And even two. The cut is oversized, the shoulder is dropped, the armhole is wide and the sleeves are rounded: there is enough volume to accommodate thick layers without weighing down the silhouette.

If the size doesn't fit, can I exchange it?

Yes, and within 14 days of receiving your package, provided it is still tagged and unworn.
Some items are eligible for exchanges, however, we encourage you to read our advice: the oversized fit makes it easy to wear in multiple sizes, and our advice should help you choose correctly the first time.

How was the coat priced?

Preamble:
There are as many prices, ways of deciding prices, and pricing structures as there are brands.
The notion of quality differs among brands. At Patine, it is defined by a triptych of aesthetics, durability, and commitment.
A price is not necessarily indicative of the quality, durability, and environmental impact of a garment.
We do not claim that our price is low. However, we do claim a very low cost per wear and ethical remuneration for our excellent partners. We are constantly building an innovative brand model that offers an unprecedented quality-to-price ratio.

Here's how we set our prices

  • As with the entire Patine catalog, the coat's price is determined based on costs.
  • First, the cost of the material. We chose a double-faced wool with a twill weave, woven in Italy by Manteco®. Beyond its significantly reduced environmental impact compared to usual technical materials, it is a very high-end double-faced wool that is both dense and soft, with a smooth feel and a fluid drape.
  • Next, the cost of manufacturing. The coat is made in Portugal in a state-of-the-art workshop that collaborates with the biggest names in luxury...and now Patine. Our choices of construction and finishes are costly, but we deemed them essential for the garment's silhouette and durability. The interior finishes are entirely covered with bias binding and French seams to reinforce important seams. The manufacturing price was negotiated but respects our commitment to ethical remuneration.
  • Other costs: the price also includes project development costs (the time and expertise of the brilliant patternmaker who collaborates with Patine, prototypes, technical tests...), transportation, and a margin that includes our operating costs.
  • Regarding the weight of each of these costs in the price: our investments in advertising, muses, and influencers are limited. We have few markdowns and we do not inflate our prices to include a promotional budget. To conclude:
  • Finally, we apply 20% VAT.
  • Important: the Patine brand is mainly distributed directly on the website and in our store. If we were to switch to classic distribution in multi-brand stores, we would have to increase the price to include the distributors' margin. As an indication, we estimate that the coat's price would rise to approximately €1000, while maintaining profit margins at the lower end of the market average.

Do you accept returns?

Yes, such as exchanges and store credit, within 14 days of receiving your coat.
It's normal and legal to be able to return an item when there's a sizing issue or a significant discrepancy between the promised quality and the actual quality of the item received.
Another type of return can be avoided: those resulting from FOMO purchases. That's why we encourage you to put "commitment" back into the act of buying. Be warned: it's not easy to decondition yourself; e-commerce sites and brands have done EVERYTHING in the last 15 years to promote one-click shopping and impulse buys. The goal was obviously to encourage purchases, but the result has also been to unleash returns and drive overconsumption.
What we mean is: you are not to blame for this conditioning, but you are responsible (as are we) for changing fashion and how it operates.
When you buy an item without thinking, "just to try it on," and then return it, you unnecessarily tie up inventory that could have been offered to someone who truly wanted it. You generate significant costs for transport, quality control, restocking... not to mention the carbon footprint. We can do better :)

I have the Edition 1 coat, what are the differences?

- We shortened the coat by 2cm.
- We created an additional size, XXS.
- We added a button under the collar so the coat can be fully closed on very cold days or simply worn with the collar up.
- We released the coat in 2 new colors.
- Although the material is strictly identical in its composition, quality and durability standards, traceability, and manufacturing steps, it may feel slightly denser.

What does recycled merino wool mean?

Recycled wool comes from workshop scraps, and also very largely from the mechanical recycling of already existing wool sweaters. So we have not created any new material. Here's how it works: the used wool is first sorted by color before being shredded. It is then re-mixed to form the desired colors, rather than using the dye again. Finally, it is spun again, then woven, to create a new fabric. And there you have it!
