Body manifesto

Since the 80s, the bodysuit has been a wardrobe staple.

At least in that of New York businesswomen and socialites. And in our fantasies of being this powerful woman who walks quickly because she has to make urgent decisions before going to dinner at the Cirque and then jumping in a taxi to make an appearance at a charity evening at the Met.

My bodysuit memory is from when I was 5. I live in Toronto, I do rhythmic gymnastics, and I have a sky blue leotard with little ruffled sleeves. My parents already know that I'm not very smart when it comes to sports... But I remember feeling powerful in that leotard. I'm a superhero!

90s. End of year show for CM2. I am hypermetropic, already quite self-conscious. The theme of the show is fitness. My mother makes me a leotard with her black swimsuit, shortening the straps. Ponytail, white tights, sneakers, bright sunshine. I still have my glasses and my shyness but 2 friends see me arrive: “wow you look so cool in your leotard”. I am galvanized. I still feel today the joy that had flooded me. A small shift had taken place, that day I gained a tiny bit of self-confidence.

So the Patine body?

We added a few drops of that day's self-confidence. Power, that of heroines in leotards. Comfort, maximum. A bit of Cameron Diaz in 1992, rounded like a ballet dancer. The best of materials, our wonderful thermoregulating and lifting Power stretch.

Thank you for your trust, this dressing room is created with you.

FAQ - All about the first Body Patine

What is special about the bodysuit material?

This bodysuit is designed in our interlock material Power Stretch, a marvel at the cutting edge of techwear, responsible and ultra high-end: ultra-soft, anti-static, and with thermoregulating properties that allow it to be worn in summer and winter, 365 days a year. In the interlock PYRATEX®power, the conventional polyamide of stretch technical clothing is replaced by micro Tencel lyocell, an artificial fiber obtained from cellulose, wood pulp.

Is it suitable for both small and large people?

Yes! The Body is tested and validated from 1m60 to 1m78. The material is stretchy, you will not have any problem closing the snaps and the extensions are unnecessary. If you have a small bust and you hesitate between 2 sizes, take the smaller one.

I have no breasts! I have a lot of breasts! Does it work?

We welcome all cup sizes in the first Patine bodysuit :) The built-in bra provides support without a bra. The rounded neckline is flattering on everyone who has tried it. It even has a discreet push-up effect on smaller busts

Cleavage OK, but how much? Sexy and 2024, is that compatible?

Ha ha. Touché. We always hesitate on the word sexy. We avoided the “Bridgetown effect”, you are not a welcome fruit basket in a hotel room. But yes we assume the iconic roundness like the ballet leotards of the 90s. With an invisible bra to feel safe. Safe place body, yes yes.

If the size doesn't fit, can I exchange my bodysuit?

Yes, absolutely, as long as it is unworn and still tagged. You have 14 days, and we always make extra pieces for you to exchange.

How was the price of the bodysuit determined?

As with the entire Patine catalog, the price is determined based on costs.

- First, the cost of the material. The fabric is an interlock knit in Portugal made from micro TENCEL™ and recycled elastane. Beyond its significantly lower environmental impact compared to traditional technical materials like polyester or polyamide, it is an ultra-premium, thick fabric with breathable and thermoregulating properties, built to last and enhance the body.

- Then, the cost of manufacturing. The bodysuit is made in Portugal, with deliberate design and finishing choices that are expensive, but which we considered essential. For example: the inner bra is designed to avoid any unsightly tension on the sides. The seams are as beautiful inside as they are outside. The care label is cut using ultrasound for ultra-soft edges against the skin. The production cost was negotiated but still respects our commitment to ethical wages.

- Other costs: The price also includes development costs (the time and expertise of the brilliant pattern maker who worked with us, prototypes, technical testing...), transportation, and our operating expenses.

- And finally, we apply 20% VAT.

- Regarding the weight of each of these costs in the final price: Our investments in advertising, celebrity endorsements, and influencers are limited. We rarely offer discounts and we refuse to inflate our prices to cover promotional budgets.

- Important: Patine is primarily sold directly through our website and our store. If we were to move to traditional "wholesale" distribution, meaning through multi-brand retailers, we would have to increase the price to ensure fair compensation for our retail partners. As a reference, we estimate that the price of the bodysuit would rise to around €320 instead of €150, even while maintaining below-average industry margin rates.

In conclusion:

- There are as many pricing structures and pricing strategies as there are brands.

- A price is not necessarily indicative of a garment’s quality, durability, or environmental impact.

- The definition of quality differs from one brand to another. At Patine, it is based on a three-part principle: aesthetics, durability, and commitment.

- We don’t claim our price is low. However, we proudly stand by a very low cost per wear. Every day, we’re building an innovative brand model that offers a truly unique quality-to-price ratio.

A co-creation project

More than 1,800 of you participated in the design of the first Patine Body. Starting Saturday, November 9 at 8:00 a.m., you will see if it lives up to your expectations. That's what we like about you: your expectations are as high as our ambitions. We can't wait to reveal this body that combines sexy, comfort and durability: no fewer than 157 occurrences of the word sexy in your responses and the word comfort mentioned no fewer than 280 times. Just that.

Conscious body!

Power stretch is designed with micro Tencel lyocell, an artificial fiber obtained from cellulose, wood pulp.

The challenge on this Power project is to find an alternative to conventional polyamide in stretch technical clothing.
The bodysuit is made in Portugal in a factory that we love, which pays its employees properly and ensures good working conditions.
Its design and quality are designed so that your garment is loved for a long time and worn often, in order to multiply the occasions to wear it again: this is what we call cost-per-wear.

Timeless but special, simple and endearing, you will wear it often and little by little you will buy less but better. Help you to build a basic dressing room "crème de la crème" that we put back. That's the Patine spirit.
